The claim

Know who to claim from, the day the court rules

In a Dutch bankruptcy a creditor submits its claim to the curator before a date the court sets. A supplier abroad rarely hears about the ruling in time.

  1. 1

    The court rules

A Dutch court declares the company bankrupt or grants a suspension of payments, and the ruling goes into the Centraal Insolventieregister. We read it within the hour and match it to the KvK number.

  2. 2

    You get what to do

An email and a webhook: stop credit, and claim from the curator (or, in a suspension, the administrator) named in the official record we link to.

  3. 3

    Claim before the date

Normally 14 days before the first claims meeting. A late claim is not verified, and most bankruptcies end with nothing for ordinary creditors.

Declared bankrupt (14 Oct 2026)

What to do: Stop supplying on credit. Submit your claim to the curator named in the official record, with copies of your unpaid invoices, before the date in the notice (normally 14 days before the first claims meeting): a late claim is not verified. If you supplied goods with retention of title, tell the curator straight away; a cooling-off period of up to four months can delay taking them back.

Questions

Checking Dutch companies

How do I check if a Dutch company is bankrupt?

Search it above by name, or by its KvK number written as NL12345678. If the Centraal Insolventieregister, the Dutch courts' official register, lists a bankruptcy or suspension of payments for it, you see the procedure, the date, what to do and a link to the official record. We read the register every hour.

What is a KvK number?

The 8-digit number of a business in the Dutch trade register of the Kamer van Koophandel (KvK), usually printed on its invoices and website. Write it with NL in front (NL12345678): a bare 8-digit number is read as a UK company number.

How long do I have to submit a claim in a Dutch bankruptcy?

Until the date the court sets: normally 14 days before the first claims verification meeting. The curator writes to the creditors it knows about with that date. A claim submitted after it is not verified.

Who do I send my claim to?

In a bankruptcy (faillissement), to the curator; in a suspension of payments (surseance van betaling), to the administrator (bewindvoerder). Both are named in the official record, with their contact details. Send the amount owed with copies of your unpaid invoices.

What is surseance van betaling?

A suspension of payments: a court procedure that freezes a company's older unsecured debts while it tries to recover or reach an agreement with its creditors. Secured creditors and the tax office are not bound by it. It often ends in bankruptcy.

Which Dutch companies are covered?

Legal entities such as B.V.s, N.V.s, foundations, associations and cooperatives with a bankruptcy or suspension of payments in the Centraal Insolventieregister, matched to the KvK number. Sole traders and partnerships whose partners are personally liable (V.O.F., C.V.) are individuals and not covered. As the register's licence requires, a case is kept until six months after it ends.
