The claim deadline
Your deadline, worked out the day the judgment is published
In France a creditor must declare its claim, or it is shut out of any payout. The clock starts with the BODACC notice, which a supplier abroad rarely sees.
-
1
The judgment is published
The court opens liquidation, redressement or sauvegarde, and the BODACC publishes it. We read it within the hour and match it to the SIREN.
-
2
Two months, or four from abroad
You get the exact date: two months from publication for a creditor in France, four months for one based outside France.
-
3
Declare to the named office-holder
The liquidateur in a liquidation, otherwise the mandataire judiciaire, both named in the notice: in writing and in French, with copies of your unpaid invoices.

Questions
Checking French companies
How do I check if a French company is in liquidation?
Search it above by name or SIREN. If the BODACC, France's official record of insolvency judgments, has published one for it, you see the procedure, the date, what to do and the official notice. Our French records start on 10 October 2025.
What is a SIREN?
The 9-digit number that identifies a French company. It is the first 9 digits of a SIRET (an establishment number) and sits inside the French VAT number, so any of the three works here. You usually find it on the customer's invoices.
How long do I have to declare a claim in France?
Two months from the publication of the opening judgment in the BODACC, or four months if your business is outside France. A late claim is shut out of any payout unless the judge lifts the bar (relevé de forclusion), which must be asked for within six months of that publication.
Who do I send my claim to?
In a liquidation, to the liquidateur; in a redressement or sauvegarde, to the mandataire judiciaire. Both are named in the official notice. The claim is made in writing and in French, with copies of your unpaid invoices; a registered letter with proof of receipt is the safest way to send it.
What is redressement judiciaire?
Court-supervised reorganisation for a company that has stopped paying its debts but may be saved. It keeps trading, its older debts are frozen, and creditors declare them within the deadline. It ends in a plan, or in liquidation if rescue fails.
Which French companies are covered?
Every company (société) with a judgment in collective proceedings published in the BODACC since 10 October 2025, matched to its SIREN and read every hour. Sole traders are individuals and are kept out, like personal insolvency in the UK.
